Thiruvidaikazhi Murugan Temple

  • This temple is considered to be the betrothal place of Sri Devasena
  • It is situated in the Nagapattinam district in Tamilnadu
  • The Sthala Vriksha being ‘Kura tree’ its also called ‘Thirukuravadi' temple
  • One speciality of this temple is that there are 2 Moolavar dieties°, Lord Shiva and Lord Muruga
  • As mentioned in a previous post, this temple is also houses the ‘Kunjari Ranjitha Kumaran’ Murti
  • Lord Muruga is said to have performed penance here to get rid of sins after killing Hiranyasura
  • Devasena is also said to have worshipped Lord Shiva here before proceeding to Thiruparankundram

(Since Devasena took leave after worship to proceed to Thiruparankundram, & Lord Muruga got rid of His sins here, it is called Thiruvidaikazhi ; Vidai-leave, Kazhi - get rid in Tamil)

  • There is a sanctum for Sri Devasena, wherein her face is slightly tilted towards Lord Muruga

(Observing the bridegroom!)
